Student Services :: Introduction

The role of Student Services is to give you support during your time with us. We offer advice, information and support for students. The Unit is managed by Rona Lewis, Associate Principal - Learner Support, she is assisted by two Welfare Officers,Mererid Davies at Dolgellau and Menai Evans at Pwllheli and Glynllifon. Uou can see Mererid and Menai at the times stated below:

Dolgellau

Mererid Davies- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9.00am - 5.00pm - Thursday 9.00am - 4.30pm

Pwllheli

Menai Evans - Monday and Wednesday 9.00am - 3.30pm

Glynllifon

Menai Evans - Tuesdays 9.30am - 4.30pm

They can supply you with information about :

• Student’s Union
• Correspondence regarding Council Tax
• Help with filling in forms
• Grant Forms Pass on information about various services
• Accommodation
• College Policies

They are also responsible for the Learner Support Grant which is a fund set up to help students who are facing financial difficulties. This grant can help with course costs, travelling, childcare etc.

Learner Support Unit

The Unit gives support to enable students to successfully complete their course and reach their potential. The following are areas where assistance can be given:

• Study Skills
• Planning an essay / assignment
• Making / taking notes
• Time management
• Effective Reading
• Reading, Spelling and Punctuation Strategies
• Specific aspects of grammar
• Mathematics relevant to your course

Ann Williams is responsible for the unit in Dolgellau and Gwyneth Speake at Pwllheli and Glynllifon.

Health Visitors

Health Visitors visit the College on a weekly basis to talk and advise students about matters relating to health.

Counsellor

The College employ a counsellor that will be able to talk with students who are unhappy, worried or uncertain.
