Student Services :: Careers Help & Advice

Whatever your chosen course, during your time as a student at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor you will need to start considering your next move. Whatever your choice, there will be plenty of help available for you to plan your future. Your tutor will assist you and there will be plenty of help and advice from the College Careers Adviser, John Elfyn Gruffydd, and from Careers Wales.

The help offered includes:

  • Planning progression to higher education
  • Applying to Universities
  • Completing UCAS forms
  • The local and national job market
  • Applying for jobs
  • Producing CV's
  • Interview skills
  • Guest speakers and visits

You can arrange an interview with John Elfyn Gruffydd by contracting the Student Services Unit.

Dolgellau - at Student Services on Tuesday and Thursday.

Pwllheli - in the Main Reception area on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Glynllifon - make an appointment through your tutor - usually on Wednesday.

Careers Wales

Careers Wales works in close co-operation with the College to develop a program of careers education and guidance to suit your needs. An adviser from Careers Wales will visit the college regularly to:

  • Help you with your career choice
  • Advise you on university and college subjects and courses
  • Offer information on job and training opportunities.

You can make an appointment to see a Careers Adviser through the College Careers Unit, or by contacting the local Careers Centre in Porthmadog (01766) 514501.

The College Library contains a Careers Unit, which holds information on all aspects of jobs and careers including:

  • University and Higher Education college prospectuses in Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland
  • How to choose higher and further education courses
  • How to apply for jobs
  • Sponsorship from industry
  • Taking a year off
  • Working abroad
  • Careers software designed to help you choose careers and college courses.
