BTEC First Diploma in Agricultural Engineering
This is a practical, work-related course aimed at developing a wide range of skills and knowledge. You will be taught and assessed by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace demands, situations and activities. Course modules include machinery and workshop skills, machinery maintenance, using a tractor, using power units and welding.

The students will be educated bilingually by enthusiastic and experienced tutors and can make use of the farm and engineering workshop’s excellent resources.

The qualification is equivalent to four GCSE’s grade A* – C. Upon successful completion of the course and a positive tutor report it is possible to progress on to the BTEC National Diploma.

Students can study only some modules of the First Diploma either full-time or part-time to gain a First Certificate qualification, which is equivalent to 2 GCSE A*-C.

What will I study?
You will learn about agricultural machinery and gain a range of practical skills. During the first year you will study the units listed below. Mandatory units: • Application of science and design to technology. • Land-based occupations and their environment. • Work experience projects. • Power unit operation and maintenance. • Farm implement operation and maintenance. • Farm workshop practice.

Will I have to sit any examinations?
You will not have to sit any examinations but you will be questioned about your work and complete an assignment at the end of each unit.

What will I have at the end of the course?
Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a First Diploma in Farm Machinery.

What next?
You will be able to study for a National Certificate, National Diploma or City & Guilds Certificate 394, or seek employment working with farm machinery.
