NVQ in Hairdressing - Level 1
This course is ideal for those wishing to gain the skills that are necessary to work confidently and effectively in a hairdressing salon.

2 GCSE grade D-E

Enthusiasm for working in the industry, to look presentable and be polite and courteous to people.

What will I study?

• Shampooing.
• Conditioning.
• Reception duties.
• Health and safety in the salon.
• Hygiene in the salon.
• Team work.

You will also be supporting a stylist whilst colouring, perming and styling hair. You will be spending some time on work experience in hairdressing salons and visiting trade shows.

Will I have to sit any examinations?
There will not be an examination at the end of this course. The course tutor will assess your practical work and you will be questioned on your understanding of the subjects you have studied. In addition you will need to keep all your notes and evidence of your practical tasks. An external examiner will inspect this evidence to ensure standards are met.

What will I have at the end of the course?
If you successfully complete all the subjects you will gain an NVQ Level 1 qualification in Hairdressing awarded by City and Guilds/HABIA, and some units of City & Guilds Customer Services.

What next?
You will be able to progress to the Level 2 qualification. You may decide to go straight to work as a salon junior, and participate in shows and competitions.
