Courses :: How to Apply
Completing the application form
- A copy of the application form is available from your Careers Teacher in school. Remember that you can ask John Elfyn Gruffydd or Alison Owen from the college for help to fill in the form.
- You can apply for more than one course, but it is important to list them in order of priority
- You can apply for vocational courses and for AS levels without having to make a final decision until late August when the GCSE results are published.
If you apply for the AS level course, you should list on the application form the subjects that interest you. However, this need not be your final choice - it will be much easier for you to decide finally once you know your GCSE results.
After you complete your application form it should be handed in to your Careers Teacher - please do not send it directly to the college.
After you have completed the form
Vocational Courses (Applied GCE, NVQ or Diplomas)
- If you have applied for a vocational course you will be invited by letter for an informal interview at the college to discuss your choice - parents/guardians are also welcome to come with you. These interviews will be held during the first few weeks of the summer term.
- Following the interview we will write to you giving details of the offer. Usually, the offer will be conditional (e.g. it will depend on your GCSE results), but for some courses the offer could be unconditional.
- With the letter there will be a form for you to return confirming that you are accepting the offer.
AS Levels
As your GCSE results will determine your final choice of subjects, there will not be formal interviews for the AS level course. However, there will be an opportunity before the course starts for you and your parents/guardians to discuss the nature and content of individual A level subjects with the relevant tutors.
Remember that you can accept offers for vocational courses and keep your application open for the AS level course.
After the GCSE results are published
- The college will receive your GCSE results on the day they are published and will contact all applicants by letter within two working days.
- It will be possible at that time to discuss your final course choice.
